Near Thorsby, Alberta at Township Road 490 and Range Road 14.

Water from rock

Just off Highway 3 in the Crowsnest Pass on June 5, 2016. The water finds it way through all of the cracks and crevasses in the mountain to escape here.

Apparently I have a voice for radio

I was recorded today for a radio ad. It plays next week.

There is not much to say about it. I did two takes for one reading then three for the other. I was told I have a good voice for radio.

The funny thing is that some years back I was at my drycleaner picking up my stuff and I was having a conversation with him. I had known him and his wife for years. Another guy was behind me listening and after about a minute during a break in the conversation said directly to me "You, you have a voice for radio". Not the usual thing you hear in a line. On the other hand I guess he may be right.

Hopefully I don't have a face for radio.

Time will tell.

Farm sign

Township Road 352 east of Innisfail, Alberta on May 15, 2016. I just like this.

Weather station

Sometimes in the middle of absolute nowhere you find some odd sights. My friend and I were out on May 16, 2016 along Highway 501 and took a side road to look at an abandoned house. Just off in the field is a government weather station. I kind of expected something more sophisticated. Whoever has to check on this thing has a long drive.

Quick take: St. John's Lutheran Church

Near Devon, Alberta on May 25, 2016.

Red Rock Canyon May 28, 2016

This is in Waterton National Park. A paved road goes from the townsite and at the end is Red Rock Canyon.

This is right in the Rocky Mountains.

The area had a lot of tourists. I had to be patient and get what photos I could that did not have people in them.

Spaca Moskalyk Church

I had read about this place and I really wanted to see it in person. It is just a little east of Mundare, Alberta on a country road. It is an abandoned Ukrainian Catholic Church. The grounds are well maintained and the cemetery is still used. There have been discussions about restoring it. Any restoration is unlikely, there is just too much that would have to be done. I understand the interior may not be safe.

I was here on June 18, 2016 and this is an amazing sight. This is a multi-picture post and I am going to let the photos speak for themselves.

It is a quirk of these types of churches that the bell tower is separate from the church.

I might just live

My eyes popped open this morning about five-thirty in the a.m. and I immediately became aware of a splitting headache.

A little background. I was close to being killed off in a car accident in 1994. I driving down a secondary highway enjoying a summer day with no deadline to get anywhere. A guy on a side road drove through a stop sign and hit the car dead centre on the passenger side nearly slicing the car in half. Nothing was broken and I did not end up in the hospital. My neck was another story. I had horrible headaches almost daily for two years.

The frequency of the headaches tapered off over the years. I still get them it is just rare when they occur. This morning there was no escape from the pain. No position was comfortable. I tried sleeping it off. The pain kept waking me up. It felt like the vertebrae in my neck had suffered muliple fractures. It is very hard to focus and concentrate when even blinking hurts. The room had a mild spin to it and my vision was off. Of course I had no drugs at my residence. I put up with it as long as I could and with a lot of pain I went to my office and threw back some drugs I had in my desk. Hours of sitting in the dark with enough medication in my system I might be getting back to the land of the living. I find that something with a muscle relaxant works the best. Sometimes nothing works except time.

I hate headaches. For the obvious reasons and that it is not a visible injury. If you have a broken limb or some visible injury it is blatant that you are in a lot of pain. People cannot see a headache and I think people at times think it is not that bad and you are exaggerating. I have to be careful with certain activities or I may wake up the next day with debilitating pain. Life goes on.

Burgman notes

This is what I ride. I get a few humourous jabs thrown my way for riding this. It is 650cc and will top out at 110mph which I know from personal experience. It also will leave you able to walk after driving it a long distance. An added benefit is the insurance is cheap.

This is one of the things I really like about it. There is enough room for two full size helmets in the top case.

This is one of the other things I love about it, room for two full size helmets under the seat. I have enough space for my luggage under the seat and all of my assorted stuff in the top case. No need for saddlebags, everything locks, and nothing gets wet.

Cameron Falls May 28, 2016

Sometimes you have to spend the money

I had a moment of weakness and bought myself a Joe Rocket motorcycle jacket. Now I will have much better protection than what I had before. Great price as well. It was on sale and after trying it on a few times I think I will be really happy with this. I would have preferred yellow to make me easier to see however this was the only colour in stock that was my size. Now I need to test it out.

Another barn

Near Wasa, British Columbia June 4, 2016.

Steel wheel

Taken on the backroads near Claresholm, Alberta May 30, 2016. The farm was abandoned. This was the item that really appealed to me.

Unknown cemetery June 18, 2016

I was looking for whatever came my way when I was travelling south on Range Road 103 south of Township Road 523 which is north of Innisfree, Alberta. Just off to my right I spotted a cemetery. No name on it that I could see. No remains of a church nearby either.

You can see a large cross past the gate. The cemetery itself looks like it is in a little hollow. Was there a church or it is a family cemetery? Questions, questions.

I really wanted to check it out. A sign off to the side said "No Trespass". I was not sure if it meant not to trespass on the cemetery or the farmland right beside it. The way the sign was placed it could have referred to either. I erred on the side of caution and made a note to return another day.

Lost Horse Creek

Found in Waterton National Park on May 29, 2016. The rock here is actually red.
