Abandoned Saskatchewan August 10, 2017

This is south of Dollard, Saskatchewan. I was looking for a church that I never did find. This I found purely by chance. What is kind of interesting is that I am friends with someone on Facebook (who I have never met) that lives in Saskatchewan who frequently posts photos of this house. This is a unique and striking house. I know nothing about the place. There is nothing around for miles.

  1. What an amazing house! It almost looks like a train station with that bay window but nobody would make a train station like this. :)

  2. It must have been a pretty grand home at one time to have a cupola like that! Seems pretty fanciful for the Middle of Nowhere, Saskatchewan!

    1. It is unique. It is south of Dollard, Saskatchewan which currently has less than fifty people. If you were going to be farming in a remote rural area you might as well have a nice house.

  3. I am pretty sure I have seen this referred to as the Witch Hat House or Witch house. I'd love to stand up there and look out of that window.

  4. Yup. That is the kind of home that would have belonged to a high roller like a doctor or maybe a veterinarian or well-to-do cattle baron...

  5. Someone with money built that one Even back in the day, every corner was that much more money.

  6. That turret makes it outstanding. Great find, BW.

  7. I've seen a variation of this very house elsewhere, in a couple places. I'm pretty convinced it was a catalogue house, one of the more elaborate ones for sure.
